Why are virtual data rooms so damn expensive?

I’ve been shopping around for a VDR for a small project and holy crap, the pricing is all over the place. Some charge per page, some per user, some monthly flat fees. It’s confusing as hell. How do you even know if you’re not getting ripped off?

Yeah, the pricing models are honestly a mess. A lot of providers still operate on the old-school “per page” model because that’s how they used to bill during M&A due diligence, even though it doesn’t make much sense today. Others have moved to per-user or storage-based pricing, which can be better depending on how your team is set up. I’d suggest doing a virtual data room price comparison across a few vendors instead of just looking at one or two, since the differences can be massive. Some charge enterprise-level fees even if you’re only running a small project, while others have lightweight packages that are much more reasonable. At the end of the day, you’re basically paying for security certifications, data hosting, and support. If you don’t need all the bells and whistles, look at newer providers that are targeting startups or small teams — they’re usually a fraction of the cost.
